    This free, mandatory screening is for all Minnesota children and is best done when your child is 3 years old. The process will obtain a MN Student ID number for your child. Screening is a simple, careful check of your young child's speech and language, thinking skills, physical development, and social/emotional health. It is designed to ensure the healthy growth of students to be successful in any educational setting, and if needed, connect them to resources that will support their development.     Learn how to start researching your family tree! We’ll cover free tools for starting your family tree, how to gather and add family information, how to use free databases and how to find other family tree information. Forms and outlines will be provided via email prior to each session. During the third session we will do some searching for one of your own ancestors. Join us online!   • Docudrama: Kon Tiki

    "Kon-Tiki" is a great looking dramatization of the famed ocean voyage by Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl (Pål Sverre Hagen). Thor suspects that the South Sea Islands were originally colonized by South Americans. In 1947 despite his fear of water and inability to swim, Heyerdahl decides to prove his theory. He and five companions set sail from Peru on a balsa-wood raft built from an ancient design. Their only modern equipment is a radio, and they must navigate using the stars and ocean currents. After three exhausting months at sea, they achieve their goal.

    This is a basic obedience course that will be held indoors at the Douglas County Gym for dogs 12 weeks of age and older. The commands covered will be Heel, Sit, Stay, Come and No. But more importantly, it will teach you about dog behavior and training basics so you can continue with your training long after this class is over.   • Exploring with Watercolor Techniques: Embracing Happy Accidents (Gr. 2-6)

    Alexandra Sletten loves to teach students the magic of watercolor painting! As an elementary art teacher it’s one of her favorite lessons. She believes the success of mastering this media lies in the art of learning to trust watercolor because it’s ultimately going to do what it wants to do. This is why she often call this lesson, “embracing happy accidents!” Students will first learn about and experiment in various watercolor techniques. Students will create a masterpiece using their newly learned techniques, drawing from observation. This will be a gridded painting, where students will draw what they see (still life) and then capture it in multitude of grids utilizing several of the learned techniques. These lessons teach students about the power of experimenting and playing with materials as they create a unique paintings. When they are displayed in your home, they are simply breathtaking!

    This quirky comedic war film focuses on Scottish soldier Charles Plumpick (Alan Bates), who is sent to a French town on a mission to disarm a bomb left behind by the retreating German army.   • Holiday Cookie Bake and Decorate! - Online

    Are you looking to start or continue a holiday cookie baking and decorating tradition? Consider registering for this On-Line, Live, Family Friendly Fun Holiday Cookie Class for beginners. Gather your family for baking and decorating, or treat yourself to some quality personal fun time. Learn how to make Royal Icing and the basics for decorating cookies with it at home. Participants will be baking the cookies ahead of time so that they are ready to decorate at the start of class. A PDF with two of the instructor’s personal sugar cookie recipes, and a list of ingredients and supplies needed for the Royal Icing will be provided at least a week before the class, to provide time for shopping and baking. The recipes will include a soft and chewy sugar cookie, and a denser crisp sugar cookie. Participants can choose to bake one or the other or both using your favorite cookie cutters! One of the instructor’s favorite holiday cookie cutter shapes is a gingerbread person. This is one of the shapes that proves to be a lot of fun to decorate year after year and some time will definitely be spent on this in addition to other holiday shapes. No fancy decorating tips or bags will be needed. We will be using simple plastic sandwich bags to decorate.
