Have you ever seen Deaf people signing with each other or seen an interpreter working and wished you knew sign language as well? Now’s your chance to learn! This 4-session class will give you the foundation you need to comfortably start a conversation with a Deaf person as well as give you the tools to continue learning more sign language even after the course is done. Sign up with your friends and family so you can learn to communicate in ASL together! The only requirements for kids to attend are that they are able to read and be accompanied by a parent/adult.
Sharla Hoffman got her bachelor’s from North Central University in American Sign Language Interpreting. While at school she learned sign language partially through ASL class, but mostly from her Deaf roommate and friend. Since graduating in 2018 she has been working as an interpreter for the Deaf. Sharla currently works for Alexandria Public Schools, interpreting for District students. She loves working with the Deaf community as well as teaching others to appreciate and use ASL.
