Rising Stars - Remembering the '80's (Gr. 3-7)
SING! DANCE! ACT! The Rising Stars summer performance program has been a vital and exciting addition to our Community Education line-up for many years! Quality instructors and experienced mentors will assure that students will build skills for stage performance! Students will share the stage with other talented students in a singing, acting, and dancing extravaganza! This year’s theme is "Remembering the '80's” and will involve music, dance, and skits about the history of Broadway Musicals! The Rising Stars experience concludes with a FREE public performance on the evening of Friday, August 12. Instructors: Steve Deitz is the Vocal Music Director at Alexandria Area High School; Jackson Grove has been a Rising Stars dance instructor multiple times & graduated with BFA in Musical Theatre, emphasis in dance; Jessica Chipman, (MA in Theatre, MFA in Directing) is the theatre teacher and director at Alexandria Area High School and is delighted to return to Rising Stars.

Join us to get into shape and feel better! This exercise class will challenge you, improve strength, balance and flexibility. Total body workouts for all fitness levels so you can take charge and get moving. Great group and music! Choose and pay for the number of sessions you will attend in the 4-week block, either 12, 8 or 4. Classes are held Tuesdays - Thursdays from 12:00-12:45 pm, unless otherwise noted.

Acrylic Painting for Tweens (Ages 11-15): Open Studio
Enrichment
Experiment with a variety of acrylic painting techniques as you take your ideas from thumbnail sketches to a fully developed painting. Learn more about composition as you paint from life and your imagination, color theory, the selection of your color palette, and brush handling tips for best results. This is a welcoming class environment for all levels of painters. Students should purchase/bring a canvas panel or canvas board no larger than 16x20, 2B pencil, eraser, sketchbook or drawing paper, water container, old towel, paint shirt/apron, table easel (optional).

Prairie Fire Children's Theatre - Robin Hood (Gr. 3-10)
Enrichment
Prairie Fire Children's Theatre and Alexandria Public Schools, Community Education presents "Robin Hood"! Nationally known, quality theatre Directors from Prairie Fire Children's Theatre of Barrett, MN, will lead the week's practices and performances. The catalog states it is the Pinocchio performance but that has changed to Robin Hood. Auditions are Monday, July 18 at 12:15 pm. Auditions will last approximately two hours and rehearsal schedules will be distributed at that time. Rehearsals begin, for a portion of the cast, on Monday after auditions and will continue according to the schedule on Tuesday-Friday from 12:15-4:30 pm. Depending on your child's part, they may not need to stay the whole time on Monday, so have a ride ready for them if they can leave after the two hours of auditions. Please bring food for break time and have a ride ready by 4:30 pm each day. Performances 5:00 pm & 7:30 pm in the Discovery Middle School Auditorium on Friday, July 22.

Attention parents! Is your son or daughter starting to stay home alone? Are you looking for a place for them to get some safety tips? This is an ideal class for students to learn responsibility, basic first aid and how to respond in certain emergency situations. Discussion items include phones, weather, intruders, internet activity, sibling relationships and much more! Licensed teacher, Tessa Lang, will be leading the instruction. Please bring a healthy snack and water bottle.

Super Sitter Workshop! (Gr. 5 and up)
Enrichment
Be a Super Sitter! Review the basics and take your babysitting skills to the next level. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn about childcare plus, guest speakers will share specific safety and first aid information. Learn fun and simple strategies to keep children entertained and engaged in activities when babysitting. This Super Sitter Workshop is for beginners, those who have never taken a babysitting course and for more experienced sitters to brush up on skills and get new ideas. This class is especially designed to help students learn to supervise toddlers and up. Instructor is licensed teacher Tessa Lang. Please bring a healthy snack and water bottle.
